Murder/kidnapping suspect killed in shootout with AR authorities
UNION COUNTY, AR (KSLA) - An El Dorado man was shot and killed in Union County Sunday night, after he allegedly turned the gun on his ex-wife and killer her in front of deputies.
It happened in a wooded area in western El Dorado off of Parnell Road and Sonny Brook Lane, just after 10:00 p.m. Officers had just found the vehicle when Donald Hux, 36, reportedly shot and killed Amy Huckabee as officers approached. Officers opened fire, killing Hux.
The shootout brings to an end a manhunt that began early Sunday morning, after Hux allegedly shot Amy Huckabee's husband, 36-year-old Sandy Huckabee. Huckabee is reportedly a distant cousin of former Arkansas Governor, Mike Huckabee.
Huckabee's body was reportedly found at a home in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, which is about 120 miles northeast of Shreveport.
KSLA News 12 has learned that Hux was released from Caddo Correctional Center on Thursday after he spent the past six months behind bars for solicitation. He allegedly made harassing phone calls to his ex wife while he was in jai. According to the Associated Press, Amy Huckabee told police in August that she feared for her life after receiving threatening letters from her ex-husband.
According to deputies in Union County, Arkansas where most of this is believed to have taken place, Hux dropped the kids off unharmed somewhere in Union County. They are now in child protective custody.
KSLA News 12 investigated Hux's background and learned that he had been in trouble with law enforcement before.
In October 2011, Hux was reportedly arrested by Caddo Parish Sheriff's deputies for allegedly raping a woman at gunpoint at a truck stop in Greenwood, Louisiana. Reportedly Hux was employed as a truck driver at the time.
Also in 2010, Hux allegedly sexually assaulted a woman at a truck stop in Lubbock, Texas. Authorities say the victim met Hux through the Internet and agreed to meet him.
