WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. — West Memphis police said a victim became a suspect when she tracked down the men who robbed her.

Police arrested 39-year-old Tammey Lee Davis Tuesday night on complaints of public intoxication and disorderly conduct.

Police Chief Donald Oakes said two men in their 20s snatched $20 from Davis’s hand while walking to a convenience store on South Avalon.

Police responded and told Davis there were certain steps they needed to take before they could arrest anyone.

Chief Oakes said that included paperwork and a need for a better statement from Davis, because an officer believed she was intoxicated.

Oakes said about an hour later, Davis tracked down the suspects, who were with a group of friends.

“At that point, she’s the aggressor,” Oakes said.

Oakes said she got herself into a fight with the young men and police responded again. This time, they arrested Davis.

WREG spoke with Davis, who said she never confronted the men. She said one of them hit her in the jaw when they initially stole her money. She said she then ran into them again on the way home.

“I’m a woman. I’m by myself. Why would I go nine, seven, eight, nine boys? Help me make that make sense,” Davis said.

Davis said police would not arrest the young men, although they were nearby.

She claimed she was clearly the victim in the situation.

Police said none of the young men have been arrested yet. Any arrests would require Davis’s cooperation.

Davis was arrested for disorderly conduct for a separate incident in January.
